medication3 Telephone requests for repeats may be made between 09.00 am and 04.00 pm Monday to Thursday, and 09.00 am to 12 noon on Friday. Repeat prescriptions are not done on Saturday or Sunday. The telephone number for repeats is 01777 872356. Requests made before 12 noon will be ready by 3.30 pm on the same day. Please note that repeat prescriptions are not to be collected between 08.30 and 10.30 am unless by prior arrangement.

You can also order your repeat prescriptions online day or night by requesting a registration form from Reception. This will include the log-in details required to open an account. Please note, however, that the collection times remain the same.

If you order your prescription on line, and you are overdue for your medication review, we will not proceed with your request.

Prescriptions

pharmacist_3 This is a part dispensing practice, which means that if you live within one mile of the pharmacy in Tuxford you must take your prescription to a pharmacy for dispensing. Please note that this can be any pharmacy of your choice and not necessarily Tuxford Pharmacy.

However, if you would have serious difficulty in obtaining necessary drugs or appliances from a pharmacy, i.e. if you are housebound and have no regular carer to assist you, you may apply to have your prescriptions dispensed by your GP. Please ask our receptionist for details. If you live outside the one mile area, your prescriptions will be dispensed by our trained dispensers and ready to collect at the surgery after consultation with the GP.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

From 1 April 2009, the charges are:

Prescription (per item): £7.20
12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
3-month PPC: £28.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £7.20, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £28.25 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.
